Overview

The Black Rabbit Cafe, nestled in the heart of Valley Village, CA, is a hidden gem blending a unique culinary experience with the casual charm of a neighborhood spot. Situated inside a liquor store on Whitsett Avenue, this restaurant offers more than just great food—it delivers a fresh concept that appeals to both lunch-goers and casual diners alike.

The menu is thoughtfully crafted, featuring a focused range of sandwiches and light dishes that highlight quality ingredients and bold flavors. Standouts like the Black Rabbit Panini and Buffalo Chicken Panini showcase the café’s knack for hearty, satisfying meals paired with inventive touches such as chipotle ranch and goat cheese. The use of crusty breads like sourdough and French rolls adds a welcome texture that complements the fillings perfectly.

Beyond the food, the café’s atmosphere is warm and inviting, characterized by its small but comfortable seating with bar-style counters outside—offering just enough space to enjoy a quick, fulfilling meal. The friendly and attentive staff contribute to a welcoming vibe, making every visit feel personal and relaxed. The adjoining market’s selection of drinks and snacks adds to the overall convenience and appeal, catering well to customers looking for a complete grab-and-go experience.

The Black Rabbit Cafe suits a diverse audience, from busy professionals seeking a quality lunch to local residents who appreciate the blend of craft sandwiches, an incorporated liquor store, and additional offerings like sushi and frozen yogurt. This integration makes the venue a rare multi-purpose destination.

While some patrons have noted that certain items, like the Buffalo Chicken Panini, might benefit from a more balanced sauce-to-ingredient ratio, the culinary creativity and flavor profiles remain strong draws. Considering the thoughtful menu and the consistent praise for standout sandwiches, it’s clear this is a place with considerable potential and a loyal following. The incorporation of sushi alongside their core offerings further hints at their aim to evolve while respecting their current strengths.

In essence, The Black Rabbit Cafe combines convenience, creative sandwiches, and a welcoming atmosphere in a distinctive Valley Village location. It’s an ideal spot for those who appreciate good food with a twist, served in a laid-back setting where community and quality intersect seamlessly.

Has a lot of potential. The sandwich ingredients are great, overall concept is better than other places. The taste is mostly there but overpowered by the unnecessarily massive amounts of sauce that squirts out and drips everywhere when you have a bite. Maybe they were going for juicy but it was too much. I used about five napkins cleaning up. Opinions differ on how much sauce is good but I'd say the vast majority of people would agree. The owner should test his own food and come up with a slightly different ratio of sauce. I will still go back and try something else but I'll make sure to request slightly less sauce.

Got the Black rabbit sandwich (with extra Chipotle sauce). Nom nom! The bread alone is bomb; crispy and delicious. The sandwich was tasty & had good flavor. It's'a good size & filled me up. Enjoyed it with a cold Dr Pepper from the market. The market has a lot of drinks & snacks. There's about 8 chairs outside in a bar type counter. The ladies were friendly and prices are fair for the portion/quality. It's located on the corner in a small plaza with some parking.

The place is inside a liquor store, which I thought it was cool! The food looks delicious, the menu is perfect without too many options. I order the chicken pesto and the black rabbit panini. Staff was kind and attentive, thank you

I’ve been coming to this market for a while completely ignoring the café. Finally one time I was hungry and curious and decided to try it and I was more than impressed. They make amazing sandwiches, I’ve only tried three but definitely gonna try them all. And now they have sushi!! I already ordered my sandwiches when I saw the sushi area so I didn’t get it this time, but Rigo and Yoseph behind the counter are really cool. Can’t wait to give it a try!!! you should definitely stop by and check them out

This is my to go place for lunch. Their sandwiches are so good. It’s really convenient to be able to call in and order for pick up and that’s just the café portion. They’re also a liquor store and they have frozen yogurt and they also have sushi. I love this place.

I AM NEW TO LA AND SHERMAN OAKS, AND THE "BLACK RABBIT CAFE" IS BY FAR THE BEST RESTAURANT FOR "EVERYTHING" THEY HAVE ON THEIR MENU!!! THEY HAVE THE MOST "INCREDIBLE" POTATO SALAD (with and without the most delicious bacon I've ever had at a restaurant) AND TUNA SALAD IS ALSO "A MUST" TO ORDER ON THE SIDE!!! I ORDERED THEIR BTLA WITH EXTRA BACON, BECAUSE AGAIN, THEY HAVE THE MOST " SCRUMPTIOUS + BEST BACON I'VE EVER HAD ANYWHERE IN LA. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY MY NEW "GO TO RESTAURANT" IN LA FOR MYSELF, TO TAKE MY CLIENTS, AND I REFER TO EVERYONE I KNOW. ANYONE READING THIS NEEDS TO TRY OR YOU'RE MISSING OUT! LASTLY, YOU'LL ADORE SAMEERA, LUPITA AND THE MANAGER - LUCKY, WHO WILL ALL MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE "HOME" (whether dine in, pickup or delivery). THANK YOU "EVERYONE" FROM THE BLACK RABBIT CAFE FOR BEING SO KIND AND FOR THE YUMMIEST FOOD EVER, WHICH MAKES ME FEEL LIKE "HOME" (and I'm from Chicago, so I know the best food)!!!! - Kelly
